Thought I would drop a quick OTB post about an app I stumbled upon recently that gives you a ton of information you didn’t even know you had or at least couldn’t access quickly, until now.
A company called Xobni (yes, it’s a weird name) has created an app called Smartr contacts that is really almost too good to be true.
See, we all have address books on our computers, contact lists in our phones, friends lists on Facebook, Twitter followers and follow-ees, etc. In my case, and probably most of you too, those lists are wildly different. Sure there is a lot of overlap, but I don’t know of anyone that has all of their Facebook friends programmed into their phones.
In comes Smartr. You can get this app for your iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.), Android phone, Blackberry and it works with Outlook and Gmail. I am a big Gmail user and have been for many years so there are tons of email addresses it remembers as well as my own contact list.
What Smartr does is it allows you to login to your Facebook, Gmail, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts and then pools all of that contact information together in a searchable app. For example, if you have a person’s cell phone number saved in your iPhone and are friends with them on Facebook, it will search their Facebook profile which may include their address, home phone number and email address. Then you have all of that information in one place. It even shows the history of contact between you and the people of your contact list.
I know there has been several times where I have had to run to Facebook to try and find contact information for someone I needed to get in touch with, but other wise never had outside of Facebook. Smartr is a handy little app to have around.
You do have to create a Xobni account, but that is free.
I’m not a big fan of putting all of this information out there for everyone to see and try to limit the information I put on my accounts, but if people are going to do it, I’m a fan of being able to access it quickly.
