OC’s Miller getting attention on AAU circuit
Ohio County boys' basketball player Justin Miller is getting attention around the state from him performance on the AAU circuit this summer. He was sidelined last year with an injury but is expected to be a contributor as a sophomore for the Eagles next season.
Beaver Dam’s Justin Miller has been drawing some serious attention this summer as a member of the Hoop Dreams-Kentucky Tigers 15-and-under AAU team. Miller, who will be a sophomore at Ohio County High this fall, was a major factor in the Tigers winning the Kentucky State AAU 15-U state championship on May 20 at Lexington’s Kentucky Basketball Academy.
Miller, a 6-6 center, led the Tigers with 15 points in their quarterfinal win over the 859 Hornets, and had a 10-point performance in the Tigers’ 58-56 win over the Next Level Sports squad in the state championship game.
Some of Justin’s teammates on the Kentucky Tigers were South Laurel’s Zac Baxter, Russell County’s Nick Coffey, Pulaski Southwestern’s Isaiah Collier, and Lexington Henry Clay’s Jeremiah Tisdale. Eight schools were represented on the Tigers’ nine-man roster. According to Louisville Courier-Journal, Miller is ranked as the number two 15U player in the state behind Tisdale, and just ahead of Louisville Ballard’s Rashawn Robinson, South Laurel’s Baxter, and Lexington Christian’s Matt Rose.
Justin Miller, the son of Cindy Miller, played varsity basketball at Ohio County High as an eighth grader in 2011 but was forced to sit out last season with a stress fracture in his foot as the Eagles went 29-3 and won the 10th District championship. He is expected to be an important part of Paul Decker’s 2012-’13 Eagle squad.
