Immigration is something that this country really needs to look into and our elected officials in Washington need to try and fix it. You can look around the internet and see stories about how president Barack Obama and his administration are going to stop deporting some young illegal immigrants.
The move by Obama has made some people happy and others fighting mad. I can see both sides of it.
Sure, these kids didn’t come here because it was a good idea, they were brought here by their parents. It’s not like they had a choice. But on the other hand, illegal immigrants can be a burden on tax payers when it comes to health care and education in public schools.
Not only that, but many of these young immigrants have been educated in our public schools, colleges and universities. Isn’t it smart business to make these folks legal so that they can start paying the taxes that immigration opponents love to talk about them not paying?
What is wrong with this situation is the hatred that many citizens of this country have for these folks. These people are here for the same reason our ancestors came to this country. It’s the land of opportunity.
These people are human beings and should be treated as such. If you are a white person in this country, your ancestors were immigrants and those immigrants founded this country. Few people ever think about that before they open their mouths about the Hispanics that live in this country or even Ohio County.
Unfortunately, the immigration issue falls dangerously close to issues like abortion and guns. If the folks in Washington actually do something to solve it, they won’t have anything to talk about during election years.
