The Ohio County Little League’s 9-10 All-Star team made a strong showing in the Distict 1 Little League Tournament, winning three of four games in preliminary pool play. But that record wasn’t quite good enough for the local boys to move on to the final tournament phase decide the district championship.
Ohio County opened play last Saturday with a close 9-8 win over Butler County. Ohio County led 9-6 entering the final inning but had to hold off a late Butler County rally to get the win.
Travis Fulkerson was the winning pitcher and also led the winners on offense with a home run and triple. Brandon Davis and Alex Reyes added doubles — Reyes driving in two runs — while Jordan Tolle singled. Logan Ashby started for Ohio County before giving way to Fulkerson, followed by Trey Lewis, Caden Gregory, and Tolle who got a save.

Next came an 11-8 win over Bowling Green West, with Travis Fulkerson’s walk-off three run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning ending the game. Fulkerson homered twice in the game while Ty Smith had three hits for Ohio County, Lewis two and Davis and Trip Manning one each. Lewis got the mound win in relief of Tolle.

After being rained out the day before, Ohio County took on host Owensboro Southern Tuesday afternoon, falling by a final score of 11-0. Southern pitchers Peyton Caraway and Nick Belcher combined to no-hit Ohio County while their teammates collected nine hits off three Ohio County moundsmen. Lewis took the loss with Ashby and Fulkerson also taking the hill. Kobe Coomes and Belcher each homered for Southern.

Ohio County whipped Franklin 12-2 Wednesday afternoon, but lost a finals berth to a team with an identical won-loss record on a run-differential tie-breaker. Fulkerson got his second pitching win of the tournament and hit his fourth home run of the tourney. Zeke Hatfield had three hits for Ohio County with Lewis getting two and Tolle picking up two RBIs.
Other members of the Ohio County 9-10 All-Stars were Wade Everley and Eli Hatfield. The 9-10 Stars were managed by Ben Everley with Greg Moore and Ryan Sandefur serving as coaches.
This year’s District 1 9-10 Tournament was played at Owenboro Southern’s Vic Evans Field.
