AthelAustinAthel L. Austin, 95, of Yale Place; Owensboro, Ky., formerly of Calhoun, Ky., and Peoria, Ill., died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Athel Lee Taylor was born June 6, 1919, in Ohio County, Ky., to the late Adrian Madison and Maude Coleman Taylor and was married to Alfred Piercy Austin on Sept. 15, 1946.

Athel was a homemaker, a member of Calhoun United Methodist Church, and an avid University of Kentucky Basketball fan.

In addition to her parents, Athel was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Alfred P. Austin, who died June 26, 1997; by two sons, Bobby R. Austin and Norman Morrow; and by a daughter, Sandra K. Austin.

Survivors include two sons, Hugh Austin and wife, Monica, of The Villages, Fla., and Gene Austin and wife, Belle, of Calhoun; three daughters, Annie Crawford, of Calhoun, Rebecca Kline and husband, Kelly, of Rockport, and Joan Jordan and husband, Bill of Ottawa, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with the Rev. Ken Berggren officiating. Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with Athel’s family from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until time of services Friday at Musters in Calhoun.
