Elsie T. Martin, 94, of Owensboro, Ky., died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at Springhurst Health & Rehabilitation in Louisville, Ky. She was born Aug. 5, 1920, in Ohio County, Ky.
She retired after 25 years of employment with Murphy-Miller/Hon Company where she was a seamstress. She was a member of Hall Street Baptist Church for over 74 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Martin, on May 20, 1992; and by a half-sister, Barbara Hinsch.
Survivors include her eight children, Allen Eugene Martin (Norma), Carolyn Steele (Dennis), John Larry Martin (Phyllis), Donald Martin (Frances), Linda O’Bryan, Michael Martin (Gail), Mayrene McPherson, Perry “Bobo” Martin (Jackie); 19 grandchildren, Cheryl McDonnell, Jennifer Martin, Melissa Martin, Tina Reid, Vikki Monarch, Eric Scott Martin, Wymond Steele, Jason Steele, Broc Martin, Adam Martin, Ryan Martin, Todd Niehaus, Clint Niehaus, Chris Martin, Chad Galloway, Stephanie Snyder, Jana Rudd, Rebecca Hightower and Brian Phillips; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Lee Tanner, of Louisville; and a half-sister, Elouise Alf, of Wisconsin.
Services are 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial is in Elmwood Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday and after 10 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
