Walter A. ‘Peanut’ Voyles

WalterVoyles1Walter A. “Peanut” Voyles, 73, of Owensboro, died on Oct. 14, 2014, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Hancock County on March 16, 1941, to the late Casper and Maudie McDaniel Voyles.

Walter served in field artillery as part of the U.S. Army.

He was a retired transmission rebuilder, having worked at Automotive Incorporated for several years. Walter volunteered at the Daniel Pitino Shelter. He enjoyed fishing and cooking. Most of all, Walter loved spending time with family, especially holiday dinners.

Walter was preceded in death by two brothers, Basil E. Voyles and Corville Joe Voyles.

WalterVoyles2Survivors include his estranged wife of 26 years, Catherine Voyles; eight children, Walter Voyles, Jr., (Maria), Scott Voyles, of Lexington, Corville Voyles, Tammy Sweitzer, of Ohio County, Deanna Culbertson, of Ohio County, Johnathan Voyles (Nina), Steven Voyles (Ashley) and Cody Voyles; 25 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Casper E. Voyles, Jr., (Brenda), of Hatfield, Ind., Phyllis Roemer (Thomas), of St. Charles, Mo., Rayetta Robbins (Eugene), of Lewisport, and Loretta Rather (Chester); sister-in-law, Geraldine Voyles, of Sarasota, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Gene Robbins will officiate. Burial will follow at Pellville Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
