RexDentonWorld War II veteran Rex M. Denton, 95, of Fordsville, who served in the European and Pacific theaters, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, at Fordsville Nursing & Rehab Center.

He was a member of Fordsville Christian Church since 1932, a 65-year member and past master of Fordsville Masonic Lodge 600, a member and past president of Fordsville Lions Club and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a school photographer from the late 1940s to the early 1980s and was best remembered for handing out black combs and also known for his artwork.

Rex was preceded in death by his wife, Enzie Denton, Jan. 6, 1990; his parents, Dr. Rex M. and Nellye Denton; daughter-in-law Elaine Denton; and a grandson, Scott Johnson.

Survivors include his sons, Donald Rex Denton, of Fordsville and James Michael (Sue) Denton, of Carlisle; four granddaughters, Megan (Hugo) Gonzalez, of Paris, Stephanie Denton, of Owensboro, Michelle (Robert) Young, of Hartford, and Holly (Don) Smallwood, of Mt. Sterling; a grandson, Jacob M. Denton, of Lexington; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and 16 nieces and nephews.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Geary Funeral Home, Fordsville. Burial will be in Fordsville Cemetery with military honors by the Ohio County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
