Hugh ‘Rig’ Boyken

HughBoykenHugh “Rig” Boyken, 73, Calhoun, Ky., died Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at his home. Hugh Reginald Boyken was born June 28, 1941, in McLean County, Ky., to the late Clyde Marshall and Alma Eveline Nunley Boyken, was married to the former Lois Ray Scalf on April 6, 1963, and was known as “Rig” to his family and friends.

Rig was a retired auto mechanic and a member of Buttonsberry Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Rig was preceded in death by a son, Michael Wayne Boyken.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Lois Boyken; a son, Hugh E. Boyken and wife, Tabatha, of Owensboro; a daughter, Penny Tewmey and husband, Michael, of Calhoun; five grandchildren, Brenda Boyken, Lincoln Boyken, Laney Boyken, Linley Boyken, and Jase Tewmey ; six brothers, Harlan Boyken, of Island, Clyde Boyken, of Beaver Dam, Eugene Bray, of Livermore, Donnie Bray, Roy Bray, both of Owensboro, and Tony Bray, of Hartford; a goddaughter, Betty Evans, of Owensboro, along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with the Rev. Barney Priar officiating. Burial will be in the Island Community Cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with Rig’s family from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at Musters in Calhoun.
