LarryStitesJ. Larry Stites, 72, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, at home. He was born in Daviess County on Nov. 26, 1942, to the late Clarence Lee Stites and Anna Belle Huff Stites.

He was retired from Bob’s IGA in Hartford, where he worked for 16 years. He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church and enjoyed playing golf, watching NASCAR races and UK Basketball, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles William Stites and Joseph Lee Stites.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Martha Winters Stites; three sons, Mark (Cindy) Stites, U.S. Navy Retired of Millington, Tenn.; Cecil “Frankie” (Sarah) Winters and Terry Winters, both of Owensboro; two daughters, Laurie (Dan) Austin, of Utica, and Beth (Wayne) Willis, of Livermore; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Stites Ford, of Owensboro; and several nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Precious Blood Catholic Church with the Rev. Bruce McCarty officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Haley McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
