HootGibsonAllen Ray “Hoot” Gibson, 67, of Greenville, Ky. passed away Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015 at 1:15 p.m. at his home after a sudden illness.

Hoot was born May 12, 1947 in LaFollette, Tenn., the son of Leslie Richard Gibson and Mary Ruth Smith Gibson. He was a UMWA coal miner for Peabody Coal Company for 10 years and a Safety Director for 34 years until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Central City and one of the biggest UK basketball fans around. They could not play without him. Hoot was a member of Pond River Masonic Lodge # 244 in Greenville where he served as a Past Master and he was a Shriners International member with the Rizpah Shriners Madisonville, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Betty Sue Turner.

Hoot is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sue Wilson Gibson of Greenville, Ky.; two sons, Chris Gibson of Greenville, Ky. and Scott (Cheryl) Gibson of Greenville, Ky.; grandson, Hunter Hampton; granddaughter, Cheyanne Gibson; two brothers, Leslie Gibson of Hartford, Ky. and Thomas (Brenda) Gibson of Greenville, Ky.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from Gary’s Funeral Home Greenville, Ky. by Sheriff Curtis McGehee and Rev. David Toroxell with burial to follow in Woodland Cemetery Greenville, Ky. Friends may call Saturday morning Jan. 17, 2015 after 10:00 a.m. at Gary’s Funeral Home until the funeral hour.
