Monty Glenn Hancock, 79, of Sorgho, Ky., went to be with God and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, March 9, 2015. He was born Nov. 27, 1935, in Daviess County, Ky., to the late Posey and Lydia Page Hancock.
He was a l954 graduate of Daviess County High School, where he played basketball and he served 14 years in the Army Reserves. He retired as a firefighter for the Owensboro Fire Department after 23 years of service. He loved raising beef cattle and was a founding member of the Daviess County Cattlemen’s Association and a member of the Kentucky Hereford Association. He was a member of Pleasant Memorial Baptist Church. He sang with the Glory Road Travelers Gospel Quartet and loved gospel music. He also loved U.K. basketball with a passion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Virgil L. Hancock and Samuel Hancock; and sisters, Ellen Juanita Bartlett, Josephine Davis and Doris Bellew.
Survivors include two sons, Gregory W. Hancock (Sherrie), of Owensboro, and Monty G. Hancock, Jr. (Brenda), of Hartford, Ky.; two daughters, Cynde Machala, of Hartford, Ky., Elizabeth Shouse (Dean), of Owensboro; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Hancock (Bonnie), of Owensboro, and Wendell Hancock (Arlene), of Payson, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews; a special friend and longtime companion, Ann McIntyre, and her daughter, Christi Townsend (David), of Eddyville, Ky., and their children, Christopher Logsdon and Jacob Townsend.
Services are 1 p.m. on Friday, March 13, at Pleasant Memorial Baptist Church in Owensboro, KY with Reverend Denny Campbell officiating. Burial is in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 p.m until 8 p.m. on Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro and after 10 a.m. on Friday at Pleasant Memorial Baptist Church.
