Martha Hess, age 94, of Portage, passed away Monday Aug. 10, 2015, at the Rittenhouse Assisted Living Center in Portage. Martha was born July 8, 1921, in Equality, Ky., to the late Jacob and Martha (Hunter) Barnard.
Martha was a homemaker mother and grandmother. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Portage. Martha was also a member of the Portage Garden Club and was a Master Gardener.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Hess, and her parents.
Martha is survived by her two daughters, Judy (Ken) Dailey, of Valparaiso, Ind., and Robyn (Terry) Sarkkinen, of Valparaiso; six grandchildren, Shannon McBride, Seann (Scott) Richardson, Kerry (Ryan) Fenters, Ken Dailey III, David Sarkkinen, Wendy Sarkkinen; and four great-grandchildren Haley McBride, Brycen Fenters, Bradley Fenters and Gabriella Richardson.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday Aug. 17, at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Ind., 46342 with Pastor Terry Gibson officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam, Ky. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, Ky.
