Anna L. Yates, 90, of Owensboro, Ky., went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015, at Hermitage Care & Rehabilitation in Owensboro. She was born June 4, 1925, in Henderson County, Ky., the daughter of the late Dallas and Mattie Sugg.
She had been the owner of Tropical Breeze for over 32 years. She was a member of Buena Vista Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Adult Council and she had served as a teacher of God’s word for over 50 years. She was a Kentucky Colonel.
Anna was preceded in death by her first husband, Eldred Hayes, in 1983; second husband, James E. Yates, in 2008; a son, Steven Earl Hayes; a grandson, James B. Martin; a brother, Dallas Sugg, Jr.; and sisters, Mary Marks and Joyce Stepp.
She leaves remaining her devoted and loving son, Donald Hayes, of Owensboro; stepdaughters, Rebecca Millay (Hubert), of Hartford, Ky., and Jennifer Bennett (Darryl Payne), of Owensboro, Ky.; six grandchildren; and 23 great- and great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind a multitude of brothers and sisters in Christ at Buena Vista Baptist Church and loving caregivers at Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation.
Services are 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, 2015, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial is in Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson, Ky. Visitation is from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday and after 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
